Why Tennis Players Can’t Dance

WSJ’s Tom Perrotta doesn’t dance around the issues:

“A chief reason tennis players don’t: They often have unusual childhoods. Other athletes compete in multiple sports as children and enroll in local schools. They watch television. They attend school dances. Most tennis players train for a future on the pro tour from early ages and don’t have time for much else.

“Dancing is social,” she said. Tennis players, “maybe their social ability isn’t as high as everybody else.” King laughed when asked about her dancing. “I’m not very good.”

Parents have a tough job trying to help their rising stars learn discipline and stay focused while also encouraging them to play well with others – not just on court!
